What UKNSWP projects are doing to mark 17th December

Cyreninas GAP Project – Newcastle

Like every year the Cyreninas GAP Project will be holding a remembrance service at our local Methodist Church in Newcastle, Brunswick Church. Brunswick is place where GAP carry out weekly peer support groups, many women have a strong connection with the Church. This event is for any person who has been effected by violence and sex work and also victims of sexual exploitation. We also use this opportunity to remember those close to us who have passed away. The GAP project unfortunately experienced two tragic deaths this year, women who worked with the service for several years and were well regarded and highly thought of within our community.

The remembrance service is a special time for GAP, clients and staff members feel safe and able to share their thoughts and feelings in this sensitive and calming environment. GAP have a memory tree placed in the Church where messages are left, the messages are written for people who have passed away, for those who have had difficult times and for sex workers all over the country who have been murdered including the Ipswich and Bradford victims.

Deacon Eunice Attwood will facilitate the session on the 17th, Eunice knows all the women personally.

For further information about this event please contact Laura Mcintyre, l.mcintryre@tcuk.org or 07855229518.

SWOSS Blackpool

SWOSS in Blackpool are pleased to announce a most successful and poignant event to mark International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. SWOSS and representatives from the Blackpool Multi Agency Sex Work partnership, Azure, were proud to transform its regular Forum/PACT meeting to focus to the day. The well attended event focused on safety training as prevention for any future occurrences and with kind support from Nina Parker from the Liberty Church in Blackpool offered a candle lit blessing and remembrance, appreciated by all who attended.
